It powers you to keep up with the day’s demands.
The old saying: “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and supper like a pauper…” is still recognised to be true. ‘Breaking-the-fast’ (breakfast) recognizes that the body has been deprived of nutrients, often for up to 10 – 12 hours. During this time, it has been carrying out the vital repair and rebuilding work during the all-important sleeping hours. That is why studies also show that we have increased levels of stress hormones in the system when we wake up.
As soon as we eat breakfast those stress hormones are neutralized. But it is not only the physical body that needs energy and nutrition for the day, a healthy breakfast is vital for proper brain functioning. Our neurochemical activity in the brain, that supports creative thinking, requires amino acids (protein) in addition to energy-giving carbohydrates. Further studies confirm that those who have eaten a healthy breakfast are more focused and more creative than those who have skipped it.
