Exercise alone will not prevent breast cancer but it will certainly help protect the body from cancer.

Research has found that people who experience persistence emotional ‘downers’ may be more susceptible to cancer. The detailed explanation of this is covered under the heading ‘Emotional care and breast cancer’. In this section we will explore how exercise impacts on mood.

You have probably heard of, or maybe even experienced, the ‘runners high’. During exercise your blood chemistry changes reducing the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. In addition exercise stimulates the production of the body’s natural pain killers and mood elevators in the form of endorphins. This is a wonderful cocktail to lift your spirits, increase calmness, reduce depression and dissipate stress.

It seems that aerobic exercise like running, tennis, squash and swimming gives the best results. But all forms of exercise would be good, walking, yoga, Thai chi, Pilates.

Ladies do make sure you care for your breasts when working out by wearing a sports bra. Also men, if you are overweight and have man boobs do strap them comfortably to your body.

When you work out the breasts swing or bounce in a figure 8 movement and this can stretch the ligaments. A workout bra made of good elastic material is essential. The bra does not need to give lift but rather push your breasts against your body to counter the swing. This ‘pushed ‘position is not good for extended periods, so only use your sports bra for the duration of the exercise session.

Most people know that exercise is important; the difficulty often arises with being consistent. Click through to our MEMBER PORTAL, to MYPLAN where you can create a personalised exercise plan, set goals for yourself, and monitor your progress – this is a really supportive system.
