Don’t let the words ‘back to work’ overwhelm you.

The best way to tackle a new year is with enthusiasm and a positive mindset. With some simple strategies and small, consistent steps, you can make 2025 your best year yet.

  1. Beat the post-holiday blues

Returning to the real world after a holiday can be pretty depressing. Here’s how to make the experience less daunting:

    • Ease into your daily routine a few days before returning to work, so going back to normal isn’t such a shock to the system.
    • Maintain the holiday vibe by continuing family activities, such as evening walks and weekend outings.
    • Plan future activities so you have something to look forward to.
    • Try a new hobby or join a club to inspire creativity.
  1. Charge your batteries

Get some exercise: Physical activity – even if it’s light – stimulates circulation, releases endorphins (happy hormones) and improves stamina.

Reduce stress: Spend five to 10 minutes on breathing or mindfulness exercises daily. Various apps, like Calm or Headspace, offer guided routines.

Connect with nature: Take a walk in the park or try some gardening. Being around plants has been shown to help us feel happier and less stressed.

To get the most from the year, you need to know what you want to achieve:

    • Reflect on 2024. What went well and what would you like to do differently?
    • Set realistic, attainable goals. For example, improve your work-life balance by committing to logging off work at a set time or scheduling family activities.
