A safe workplace is everyone’s right. Here’s how to stay safe, healthy and happy at work.
- Clean your environment
- Messy desks and workspaces are dangerous. Keep cables untangled, store items properly and clear walkways of tripping hazards.
- Wipe surfaces, wash hands regularly and keep sanitiser handy.
- When you’re unwell, work remotely if possible. If office based, avoid close contact with others, cough or sneeze into your elbow or tissues, and wash your hands regularly.
- At your workstation
- Set reminders to stand, stretch, or walk every 30–60 minutes.
- If you work on a screen. Follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet (around six metres) away for 20 seconds.
- Drink enough water to stay alert, and fight headaches and tiredness (around 1.5-2 litres). Choose healthy snacks such as nuts and fruit.
- Be safety smart
- Know where the first aid kit is and how to use it.
- Familiarise yourself with evacuation routes and extinguisher locations. And, next time there’s a fire drill, take it seriously.
- Take advantage of your workplace wellness programmeThis wellness resource is there to support you with mental health, financial concerns, and stress management.
